Fridays, 10-10:30am

Stories, films and music for the littlest ones.

BOOKAROOS

Monday OR Thursday, 10-11am

Stories and crafts for kids going into Pre-K through 2nd grade. Pre-registration is necessary.

ALICE IN LIBRARYLAND

Thursday 11am-12:30pm

A board game based on Alice in Wonderland. Children in Pre-K through 2nd grade can earn prizes for telling the librarian about books they have read or had read to them.

BOOKOPOLY

Tuesday and Wednesday, 10am-12:30pm

Players in 3rd through 5th grade may earn "Bookbucks" by reading books from the Children's Room and playing a board game. "Bookbucks" may be spent in the Library Store.

Older players, 6th through 8th grade, may also play Bookopoly using the Adult sections of the library.

Game Table

The Darwin R. Barker Library now has a beautiful teakwood game table available for playing chess, checkers or backgammon. A deck of playing cards is also at hand for card games of choice. This table was provided through a generous memorial gift to the library from Richard W. Dikeman in memory of John A. Parker. It is located in the Steele Room and may be used whenever the library is open, providing the room is not already being used for a meeting. All are welcome to make use of this new addition to the facility.

Why Margaret Fuller Matters

Who was Margaret Fuller? Fuller was a pioneering nineteenth-century American feminist, literary and social critic, and the first American woman to work as a foreign journalist. She was a contemporary of such notables as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Horace Greeley and Bronson Alcott.
The Barker Library is proud to be hosting a traveling display which includes a
a chronological telling Fuller's life and explains her views on women’s rights, education (especially female), class, slavery, American Indian rights, religion, and Transcendentalism.
This diplay was provided by the Margaret Fuller Bicentennial Committee and will run through March 8, 2011.

The Barker Library Book Club's next selection will be In the Blink of an Eye by Dunkirk native and New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Wendy Corsi Staub.

An Unusual Town...Lily Dale, New York, is no ordinary town. Creative Containers Workshop

Join us Saturday, November 6, 2010, 1-3pm for Creative Containers.
Local artist Margaret Braun will demonstrate how to turn everyday kitchen containers into decorative holiday gifts. Supplies for one container will be furnished. If you are an adult, if you are friendly, opinionated and fit the above description, then you may be interested in becoming an inaugural member of our book club.
Tentatively, our book club will meet four times per year on Saturday afternoons.

PICASA Workshop

Barker Library is offering a repeat of our popular workshop, Managing Your Digital Photos.
The workshop will provide hands-on training using Picasa software (available free from Google).
It will include training on: how to transfer photos from a camera to a computer, sorting and arranging digital pictures using Picasa, improving the quality of pictures, how to e-mail pictures, printing pictures from Picasa, and creating Web-based albums that can easily be shared with others.
The workshop is free and will be held on Saturday, March 27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Enrollment is limited so sign up early by calling 672-8051.
Participants may use a library-owned laptop or bring their own laptop with WiFi capability and Picasa3 already installed.
